Saturday’s chance to make big money playing Powerball is here. The grand prize is currently at $208 million, with a cash value of $131.3 million.

Last Wednesday’s winning numbers were 5, 7, 24, 31, 39 and 7. There were 735,659 regular winners, and $9,557,631 in non-jackpot money was won.

There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. Although the odds will change in October, currently there is a 1 in 175,223,510.00 chance in winning the grand prize and a 1 in 5,153,632.65 chance in winning $1,000,000.

When the rules do change it will become easier for the average player to win an average prize, but harder to score the big money. The odds of winning the jackpot will become 1 in 292,201,338. As quoted in USA Today, Robert Williams, the executive director of the state Gaming Commission, said, "The proposed rule is intended to increase the odds of winning any prize while decreasing the odds to win the jackpot." The new odds will launch nationwide on Oct. 4.

So the odds of winning, now and next month, are slim, but people do win. The main thing a Powerball player has to do, outside of checking the numbers, is hold on to the ticket.

The winner of a Powerball ticket sold in smoke shop in Simi Valley, California has come forward and revealed the touching way in which he won.

Eric Taguchi says his 87-year-old father used eight quarters from his late wife’s change jar to buy him the winning ticket. As Ventura County Star reports Taguchi plans to use the money to put his three children through college.
