Golden State Warriors forward Harrison Barnes is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2015-2016 NBA season. The Warriors and Barnes' camps have until October 31 to agree on the terms of a new contract and both have taken the necessary steps in the right direction.

The Warriors have offered Barnes a four-year, $64-million contract as reported by Yahoo! Sports. According to the report, the 23-year-old forward rejected the annual $16-million salary, but it seems like the move became is a starting point in extension talks.

The Warriors are eager to sign Barnes to a contract extension to avoid any expensive offers from other teams. The league's salary cap has increased, and teams with more financial flexibility will definitely be interested in Barnes' talent and potential.

Chris Haynes of Northeast Ohio Media Group reported that the efficient forward has parted ways with agent Jeff Wechsler so that he can work better towards a deal with the Warriors. Barnes confirmed the rumor and announced that he is now represented by Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management, as reported by Mercury News.

"I'm confident it'll all take care of itself," the North Carolina product said. Golden State general manager Bob Myers is also confident that they can sign Barnes and said that he is a player the Warriors management look as part of the future with potential.

Myers said on radio station KNBR in San Francisco, via Diamond Leung of the Bay Area News Group, "We're focused and motivated. Hopefully we can get something done. If Harrison was shooting the ball 20 times/game I'd love to see what that'd look like. I think it could look pretty good. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately for us, that's not what we need. But for Harrison Barnes, he's got a high ceiling."

Barnes has also shown his love for the Bay Area and the city of Oakland. Even though his an Iowa native, he usually participates in a lot speaking appointments and community events in the area. He said via Mercury News, "This is my permanent residence year-round. People always ask me why I don't go somewhere else. Oakland has been home for me. I definitely try to give back as much as I can."

The 6'8'' forward was drafted seventh overall by the Warriors in 2012 and was named to the Al-Rookie First Team. Last season, he averaged 10.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists while playing all 82 games under head coach Steve Kerr. He also shot an efficient 54.8 percent from the field and 40.5 percent in the three-point area, as per Basketball-Reference.com.
