Xbox One Elite Controller Release Date Set, See Price & Features Here
The next-level gamer will be buzzing about this one. The Xbox One Elite controller has set a release date and now the pros can begin counting down the days and saving up for the ultra-customizable device.
According to a report from Game Radar, the competitive controller is set to hit the market on Oct. 27, with the bundle including the console set for Oct. 20. Pre-orders are already available at the Microsoft Store with the controller costing a hefty $149.99.
It's a big jump from the standard controller's price of $59.99, but this new Microsoft creation promises a whole lot more than the usual Xbox One hardware.
The official website described the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller as "a performance-class controller to meet the needs of today's competitive gamers." It's a hardware that's designed to adapt to a player's hand size and playing style. Interchangeable paddles, Hair Trigger locks and a re-designed D-pad all serve to create the smoothest gaming experience for every competitive player.
In an interview with Edge Magazine last July, Microsoft's Xbox Division head Phil Spencer talked about the new controller that's geared towards the pro market, according to a report from Game Radar.
When asked where the concept and design of the Elite came from, Spencer said, "Definitely from the community. There's a lot of innovation that happens in the controller space - people want more customisation when they're at the higher end, and they want to be able to make it their controller."
"Whereas for me I take the default setup that I've learned," he continued. "But you think about your eSport pro gaming, which is a very, very strong growth category: those people - a growing segment of our population - really care about making the controller feel exactly the way they want it to feel."
Still, the more casual gamers might be unlikely to shell out for a complex piece of hardware that they will not be able to maximize. Spencer was quick to assure that Microsoft will not cease support for the standard controller that's the default for many users.
He said, "We look at the Elite controller as being for somebody who feels they're an elite competitive gamer, and that's great for them, but we'll continue to be very supportive of our Xbox One controller. It's what a vast majority of our gamers will be playing [for the] life of the console."
