A Pennsylvania District Attorney is rumored to be preparing to file criminal rape charges against Bill Cosby.

Radar Online reports Cosby's high-powered legal team is now "scrambling" to prepare for the inevitability of defending the legendary comedian in what would almost certainly be a circus-like trial atmosphere.

"He's been told to expect charges," said a source. "Because of everything that has come out, law enforcement from Philadelphia to LA are looking for any loophole that could send him to jail. They think they've found one."

Over the last several months, as many as 50 women have emerged to allege they were drugged and sexually assaulted by the now 78-year-old Cosby over a period that spans more than four decades.

Reports are the case that could derail Cosby stems from a civil settlement he reached with former Temple University athlete Andrea Constand more than a decade ago. Back then, District Attorney Bruce Castor declined to seek criminal charges, but now insists he sees a multitude of discrepancies in Cosby's story. The end result is current DA Risa Vetri Ferman has now reopened the case.

Reports are Ferman now has until the end of the year to make a formal decision about seeking charges.

"It's going to raise her profile big time and endear her to those who are disgusted by Cosby," a source told Radar of Ferman, who is now running to become a judge. "Bill has been told that it seems Constand is going to cooperate too so that's a double whammy for him."

When questioned by detectives back then, the "Cosby Show" star vehemently insisted he only gave his accuser Benadryl, and later that night the two had consensual sex.

"His lawyers have told him to expect that he's going to be indicted which means he's going to be arrested. Handcuffed and he'll take that walk of shame," the source added. "The walls are closing in ... even though he paid off Constand, she hasn't gone away and she's probably going to be the one who sends him to prison.

Early next month, Cosby is also slated to be deposed in California in a civil case, in which former Playboy bunny Judy Huth claims he sexually abused her at the Playboy mansion more than 40 years ago when she was just 15 years old. The interrogation is slated to be handled by famed civil rights attorney Gloria Allred.
