‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ Trailer: Lara Croft Faces Dangers in ‘Descent Into Legend’ Video [WATCH]
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" captures the spirit of the franchise in the new trailer released by Microsoft on Monday.
The two-minute teaser video showed Lara Croft facing the wild, jumping off cliffs and running through secret vaults, swimming through underground rivers, all in search of this story's hidden treasure.
"As children we question the world around us, we learn, we accept and gradually we lose our capacity to wonder," the voiceover said. "But some do not. The explorers, the seekers of truth. It is these pioneers who define the future of mankind."
The trailer is meant to hype up the fans with a glimpse of the heroine's adventures in the upcoming game. It's the "Tomb Raider" that long-time fans fell in love with it, showing Croft at the heart of the story chasing tombs and seeking priceless treasures.
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" is the latest game of the action-adventure franchise. It follows the journey of Croft as she explores Siberia with Jonah Maiava in search of the ancient city of Kitezh, which holds the secret to immortality. Up against a powerful organization called Trinity, Croft must survive in different hostile environments to find victory.
The stage is set for one of the franchise's biggest release yet, but fans might be getting even more Lara Croft than they expected with a trilogy reportedly in the works by the publishers and developers.
During Gamescom in August, Square Enix Americas CEO Phil Rogers might have unintentionally revealed plans for a "Tomb Raider" trilogy while talking about the game's exclusivity with Xbox.
"We believe first and foremost this is the right thing to do with Tomb Raider right now," Rogers said about Microsoft's exclusivity, according to Game Spot. "What it's done for the sake of the studio and the next beat with the Tomb Raider trilogy... But the backlash is--we've watched carefully and we believe it's the right thing to do."
When asked to comment about the hints of a third chapter after the 2013 reboot and the upcoming "Rise of the Tomb Raider," a Square Enix representative said, "We're always thinking about the future of the franchise, but right now we're focused on the upcoming release of 'Rise of the Tomb Raider'."
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" will be released exclusively on Xbox One and Xbox 360 on Nov. 10. The PlayStation 4 and PC versions will hit the stores in 2016.
