When "The Last Man on Earth" closed last season, there were a few cliffhangers that would set up some fantastic storylines for Season 2. As evidenced in the synopsis for Episode 1 of Season 2, "Is There Anybody Out There," Phil (Will Forte) and Carol (Kristen Schaal) may be the sole focus for the new season.

According to TV Guide, Season 2 will debut on Fox next Sunday, Sept. 27 at 9:30 p.m. EDT. Although the synopsis is brief for the episode, there are several key factors that can let fans know what to expect.

Officially, the episode is about Phil and Carol who were last season in a cliché scene leaving Tucson with the sun on the horizon. Carol asked about his family, and Phil told her about a brother.

That brother is played by Jason Sudeikis, and he was only present in a picture on the first episode of Season 1, then on a space station on the closing scene of the season finale. Of course, this led fans to believe the brother being stranded in space was going to be a major theme for Season 2.

So the first episode is all about Phil and Carol leaving Tucson and taking a road trip across the U.S.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Forte opened up about what fans can expect from the season and how the major twists in Season 1 (adding characters) will play less in Season 2.

Although there were many added to the cast of Season 1 as surprise characters, they will be less involved in Season 2.

"I'm being tight-lipped about their participation and how they'll be a part of the story," Forte told EW. "But I will say that they're not in the [first] script. And then we'll go from there."

So it is entirely possible that Phil and Carol may be the only two in Episode 1 this Sunday. But the title of the episode also indicates that there could be an appearance by Sudeikis.
