"Arrow" fans have plenty to look forward to in the upcoming new season, including Oliver Queen's transformation into the Green Arrow and a new big bad that is pure evil.

This season, Stephen Amell's Oliver will face off with villain Damien Darhk, played by Neal McDonough. Not only will Damien seek to destroy Star City and go after Oliver, but he is not afraid of being in the public eye.

Executive producer Wendy Mericle opened up about the showdown between Oliver and Damien, telling Entertainment Weekly that "Oliver's going to be taking up more of an overt role in terms of the city is in a bad space ... He's going to be taking on Damien Darhk, and he's going to be fighting him not just as Green Arrow, but also as Oliver Queen. It's public and it's part of him stepping into the light."

A preview video also suggests that Damien may have the power to stop the Green Arrow's signature arrows.

In wake of the new season, The CW released a synopsis that gives fans a sense of why Oliver leaves his secluded life in suburbia to return to Star City and fight with Team Arrow. It also teases the tension that will arise when he is confronted by John Diggle.

According to CarterMatt, the synopsis reads as follows:

"Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity's (Emily Bett Rickards) blissful getaway is cut short when Thea (Willa Holland) and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) pay them a visit and tell Oliver they need his help back in Star City. The city has been attacked by 'Ghosts,' assassins led by a dangerous man named Damien Darhk (guest star Neal McDonough). However, when Oliver returns, Diggle (David Ramsey) makes it very clear that he doesn't want Oliver on the team."

"Arrow" Season 4 will premiere on Oct. 7.
