Cate Blanchett is not new to the Academy Awards. This year included, she has been nominated six times and won Best Supporting Actress in 2004 for her role in The Aviator. She also has four Australian Academy Awards, three BAFTA Awards, three Critics' Choice Awards, three Golden Globes and three from the Screen Actors Guild Awards. And those are just some of her numerous nominations and awards since 1997.

Blanchett's latest Hollywood film, Blue Jasmine, is a big Oscar Award contender, receiving three nominations from the Academy for Best Actress (Blanchett), Best Supporting Actress (Sally Hawkins) and Best Original Screenplay (Woody Allen). In addition to the Oscars, Cate Blanchett has received 24 additional nominations for Best Actress for Blue Jasmine and received a staggering 21 nominations from various international award-giving bodies.

So what is Blue Jasmine all about?

Blue Jasmine tells the story of a rich socialite in Manhattan. After enjoying a very good life on her husband's riches, she eventually became homeless and almost penniless because her husband had numerous extra-marital affairs, was a fraudster and was later imprisoned. There, he committed suicide. The story is from an original screenplay by Woody Allen, who also directed the film.

With a budget of $18 million, it has already earned $94.8 million worldwide. It had a limited release to just six theaters in July of 2013 and increased its theater runs a month later.

Reviewers rated the film highly and commented that it was one of the best of Woody Allen's recent screenplays. Critics also praised Cate Blanchett's very strong performance. They think that it may not only be one of the best performances of her career but also one of her strongest. San Francisco Chronicle's Mick LaSalle said that Blanchett's portrayal of Jeanette "Jasmine" French was more than brilliant. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie a score of 91%.
