Hugh Jackman is practically as much an icon as Wolverine as the actual comic book character. "Wolverine 3" is the last time the Australian actor will be playing his clawed alter ego, and it's no surprise that the fans — and Jackman himself — are already thinking of who's going to replace him as the franchise's biggest star.

In an interview with MTV UK, Jackman weighed in on who he thinks should play the mutant when he inevitably hangs up his claws.

"I haven't really given it a lot of thought," Jackman admitted during the promotions for his new movie "Pan."

"I've been asked that question a lot, and I'm always like, I don't wanna make it too easy on the studio to replace me, you know? I've still got one more to do. I'm sure they're already talking about it, and there's some actor out there who's already, 'shh, keep it quiet but we want you next," he added.

However, despite his hesitance in naming his heir, Jackman did name one actor he believed is a good choice for the iconic role.

"He's younger than me for sure," he said. "I think Tom Hardy would be a great Wolverine."

While the franchise can't go wrong with Hardy, there's still the upcoming "Wolverine 3" to stage before Jackman bows out of the role. The next movie for the mutant will see him combine forces with Patrick Stewart's Professor X. Jackman revealed more about the film in a recent interview.

"Patrick [Stewart] does figure in it that's for sure," he told Collider. "I think it's a really important relationship but I want to see signs of that quasi-father/son sort of relationship that has not been seen before, and sides of particularly Professor X that have not been seen before."

According to the A-lister, the team behind "Wolverine 3" is working hard to ensure the quality of the film. Since it will be Jackman's last time as the beloved Wolverine, he is making sure they create a film that is the "perfect way to sign out."

"I feel that I'm pushing harder than I've ever pushed before," he said. "I suppose the stakes just go up when you announce before your last season that this is your last season, you don't want one game to not be your best... People ask me, 'How are you gonna be able to let it go?' To me the only way you can let it go is if you left blood every day on the studio floor."

Jackman added, "I really have known for quite a long time how I want to finish this sort of odyssey that I've been on, this amazing journey. And I won't let it fall anywhere in between. I won't fall short of it."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit theaters on May 27, 2016, while "Wolverine 3" is set for release on March 3, 2017.
