Oscars Selfie on Twitter With Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, & Kevin Spacey: Ellen DeGeneres Breaks Record After Celebrity Photo
Ellen DeGeneres is never afraid to do what she wants -- even when she is surrounded by some of the world's most prominent celebrities.
Naturally, the Oscars Host did a wonderful job of grabbing -- and keeping -- everyone's attention on Sunday night by doing completely random things such as ordering pizza in the middle of the formal event and taking selfies. It wasn't your average Oscars ceremony, but it worked. In fact, it worked so well that it crashed Twitter.
The social media website was flooded by tweets and retweets after Ellen posted a selfie featuring celebrities such as Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, and Kevin Spacey, among others. Twitter blew up so fast that it temporarily shut down the website. All in all, the famous selfie tallied more than 1.3 million retweets within an hour and shattered the previous record for retweets. Never before had a tweet reached or surpassed 1 million retweets, according to reports.
The last time a tweet led to so many retweets was when President Barack Obama won his re-election campaign in 2012. Obama's tweet, which included a special victory photo, led to 780,000 retweets.
Although it was seemingly Ellen's idea and Ellen's Twitter account (her show's account) that used the photo, it is worth mentioning that Cooper was the one who actually took the photo. Part of the reason why it did so well on Twitter was because it ended up being a perfect photo that captured the many different faces and expressions of Hollywood. All of the celebrities smiled and many others did their very best to sneak their way into the back end of the photo. Call it a "photobomb" if you wish but it seemed like Ellen was inviting anyone and everyone to join in for the picture.
What did you think about the selfie and the Oscars in general? Did you think Ellen did a great job or could it have been better? Let us know what you think in the comments section located below.
