'Fifty Shades Darker' News Update: Henry Cavill Will Not Star in New Movie
Henry Cavill was rumored to be joining "Fifty Shades Darker" as Anastasia Steele's (Dakota Johnson) boss Jake Hyde, but it now appears those rumors were false.
According to a recent article by E! News, producer Dana Brunetti revealed that the film has not started casting.
"We're nowhere near casting. We haven't gotten into anything like that," the producer said. "We don't even have a casting director on it yet."
The news comes as a disappointment to many who believed that the "Man of Steel" star would be joining the beloved "Fifty Shades" franchise. Cavill is busy at the moment with the world of DC Comics, as he has an extended contract with Warner Bros. to play Superman in more films. The next film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is slated for March, and the actor is hard at work promoting the film.
Brunetti also spoke about the rumors regarding Cavill, calling the story a bit crazy.
He said, "It's so insane. Somebody posts something on some obscure blog and then it gets picked up by something a little less obscure and it keeps going. Fans are starting the news by saying things like [the Cavill casting]."
However, fans weren't the only ones who heightened the news. Cavill himself used the buzz while promoting his latest film "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." The actor hinted at possibly being cast in "Fifty Shades," saying, "Basically what I can say is I can't say anything about it right now."
At the moment, the only two cast members confirmed are Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, who will reprise their lead roles and will also star in "Fifty Shades Freed," which is slated for 2018.
"Fifty Shades of Grey," based on the novel by E.L. James, was a huge hit when it was released earlier this year. "Fifty Shades Darker" is slated to be directed by James Foley and will be released on Feb. 10, 2017.
