Nationals players Bryce Harper and Jonathan Papelbon were involved in an altercation during Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

According to ESPN, after Harper flied out in the eighth inning, he and Papelbon exchanged words. Papelbon then reached for Haper's throat and shoved the outfielder into the back of the dugout, where they had to be restrained by teammates.

When asked about the altercation after the game, Papelbon stated that they had talked things out.

"It's squashed and it's good. We've moved on," Papelbon said.

"I grew up with brothers. He grew up with brothers. I view him as a brother. And sometimes in this game, there's a lot of testosterone and things spill over," Papelbon later added.

Harper echoed Papelbon's sentiment, stating, "He apologized, so whatever, I really don't care. It's like brothers fighting. That's what happens."

The Washington Nationals are having a frustrating and disappointing season, which could explain the altercation between its two star players.

The Nationals were eliminated from playoff contention Saturday. Many people picked the Nationals to win the World Series with the signing of Max Scherzer. With a pitching rotation of Gio Gonzalez, Stephen Strasburg, Scherzer, Jordan Zimmermann and Doug Fister, the team was the National League favorite to win the pennant.

With a record of 79-76, this has clearly been a disappointing season. Many people blamed manager Matt Williams for this disaster of a season. It is not known if Williams will be returning to the team next season.

Currently, Harper is the front-runner to win the National League MVP award. Harper is batting .336 with 39 home runs and 96 RBI. He has been the only bright spot in the Nationals lineup.

On Monday, Papelbon was suspended for four games without pay for his fight with Harper.
