Man With Terminal Cancer Dedicates Last Months to Making Wife's Dreams Come True
The tale of Wales native Chris Price, 26, and his wife Ceri Johnson, 29, isn't for the faint of heart. The tragic story of Price, who was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in early 2012, has made headlines across the world.
Price, a maintenance inspector, and Johnson, a mother of four children, were friends since they were teenagers and remained close before striking up a romantic relationship and moving in together in January 2012, BBC News reported.
Doctors were able to remove parts of Price's stomach where the cancer had spread and told him he had the all clear. Unfortunately, a year later, doctors diagnosed him again with liver and lung cancer but there was no cure and chemotherapy could only prolong his life for a time being.
Price, deciding to make his last days on earth as memorable as possible with the love of his life, proposed to Johnson shortly after receiving the tragic news. The two had their wedding ceremony last August in a church, which would also be the same church the families would hold Price's funeral.
During Price's last months alive, he spent it making most of Johnson's dreams come true. The pair, along with Price's newly adopted children, Halle 9, and triplets Evan, Morgan and Georgia, 6, took a trip to Disneyland Paris.
"The Disney trip was something we had talked about in the future," Johnson said, adding, "but when Chris knew he didn't have long he booked for all of us to go.
Johnson told BBC that Price loved to surprise her and the kids, and just wanted to see them all happy.
Later, Price booked a romantic getaway to New York City under the ruse that the pair would be going to Dublin, Ireland. He also bought her a lavish pair of Louboutin boots and a Mulberry handbag.
"We did such a lot in those last six months," Johnson said. "He was so positive he never talked about dying."
One of Price's last gifts to Johnson was a trip to Las Vegas for her birthday, however, the conditions of his cancer began to worsen as he was unable to make the trip.
Six months after their wedding, Price's illness eventually caught up to him as he died in Johnson's arms.
"If my love could have saved him, he would have lived forever," Johnson said. "His illness made him completely in the moment and he taught me to do the same."
