YouTube has been planning a subscription-based service for a long time, but now it looks like it is ready to roll it out.

The planned service would eliminate ads and be a competitor to other video streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

YouTube professionals, called "content owners," were told to get ready for an ad-free version of YouTube, according to Re/code. This ad-free version of YouTube would come with a monthly fee.

The email sent to content owners told them to be ready by Oct. 22 and agree to the new terms for the pay service. This points to a late October debut for the new pay YouTube.

Tuesday, Google will host an event that will introduce new hardware, like new smartphones. At the event, Google could also make software announcements like the subscription-based YouTube.

YouTube has expressed desire at a paid service for almost a year, but now it looks like they are ready to make it happen. YouTube has already created a paid music service called YouTube Music Key and will likely find a way to bundle it with the new ad-free YouTube video service.

Paid subscribers will be able to watch any video available on YouTube without having to watch ads before or during the video. The expected cost should be $10 per month for both unlimited music and unlimited videos without ads.

"We are progressing according to plan to provide fans more options in how they enjoy content on YouTube. We have support from the overwhelming majority of our partners, with over 95 percent of YouTube watch-time covered by agreements, and more in the pipeline about to close," a rep from YouTube said.

YouTube publishers have been pressuring Google to find more ways for them to increase revenue and a subscription model could be a perfect solution, TechRadar reports.
