The Oscars did something right this year! As the numbers and ratings come in, this Sunday's telecast of the primetime entertainment event proves to be the highest in 10 years.

According to the LA Times, the 86th Academy Awards on ABC is on track to be the highest rated Oscars telecast since 2005. While the critics are still out on how DeGeneres did, technology may have been a big factor. One of the highlights of the night included a viral photo of a number of A-listers doing a selfie. The move scored a 27.9 household rating/41 share in the largest TV markets, up 7% compared with last year. However, not everyone was impressed. Some critics slammed host Ellen for being boring and self-involved.

Preliminary Nielsen figures show the Annual awards show raked in approximately 43 million viewers Sunday night, up 6% from last year's 40.3 million. In 2004, with Billy Crystal as host, the show drew in 43.6 million viewers in a night that saw "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" taking home the Best Picture honors, says MTV.

Variety notes that according to Twitter, there were more than 14.7 million Tweets around the world about the Oscar Telecast with the most tweets circling on Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Alfonso Cuaron, Cate Blanchett, and Sandra Bullock.

Facebook, on the other hand, had 11.1 million people that had over 25.4 million interactions on the site, including posts, comments and likes about Sunday's Oscars. The peak moments were during "12 Years a Slave" winning Best Picture, Jared Leto winning for Supporting Actor, and Matthew McConaughey winning the top actor prize.

The only comparable telecast to these numbers in the recent years would be NFL playoff games and 2004's "Friends" season finale.

It seems as though Ellen DeGeneres learned a think or two from Seth MacFarlene's flop that bordered on crass. Ellen chose to keep her jokes clean and friendly offering more audience interaction and taking jabs at Leonardo DiCarprio's sex life and also Jennifer Lawrence for falling...again.
