With an impressive roster of bankable stars and a fanbase that's only getting bigger with each installment, it's not surprising that the "Fast & Furious" franchise has a couple more films left in the tank. Actor and producer Vin Diesel has been a part of the family since the beginning and continues to play a vital role in the making of the next few installments, including one last trilogy that he promised the studio.

Diesel recently took to Facebook to confirm the production of a final trilogy of films to close down the long-running "Fast & Furious" journey.

After thanking the fans for being part of the saga and providing feedback, he addressed the swirling rumors about the team's difficulty in finding a new director, saying, "My producing partner Neal would love for me to just sign off on a director, but this is too special a franchise, so these matters have to be very carefully handled. To be clear, NO ONE has been offered to helm Fast 8 yet... let alone seen a script."

He confirmed the upcoming trilogy by adding, "Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision... they have been like family... I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga."

It's not the first time a trilogy has been discussed by one of the film's stars. Before his death in 2013, Paul Walker hinted three more films after the then-upcoming "Furious 7" telling Collider in an interview, "Well, the studio supposedly wants 8, 9 and 10. I'll be 50. Even if 7 were to [tank], there's at least an 8. That's a guarantee."

The tragic death of Walker halted production of the movie for a while before it resumed and gained overwhelming success. Another post on Facebook last Monday assured fans that the team is continuing to work on the upcoming "Fast & Furious" films. Diesel said the studio and producers spent the past weekend working hard "mapping out the future" of the franchise.

He also expressed gratitude for the incredible performance of "Furious 7" in the home entertainment market.

"On behalf of the FAST Family, we thank you for making our DVD the biggest in history," he wrote. "We make these films with Our hearts."

According to Hollywood Reporter, the latest installment of the franchise raked in $52.5 million in consumer spending for physical and digital formats in North America. Selling 2.5 million units of Blu-ray and DVD in its first week in the market, "Furious 7" made its mark as the highest-selling home entertainment live-action movie release of the year.
