'Scandal' Season 5 Episode 2 Spoilers: America Knows About the Affair
In a clip for Episode 2 of "Scandal" Season 5, the secret romance between Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) is out, and the jilted first lady Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) gleefully describes her romantic rival as "America's mistress."
During the season premiere last week, there was a brief moment when it looked like everything would now be safe and sexy for Olivia and President Fitz. But, as the teaser for Episode 2 makes clear, all hell has quickly broken loose.
Showrunner Shonda Rhimes is a big fan of the affirmative. Not only is the upcoming episode of her mega-hit “Scandal” called “Yes,” but she has just written a memoir called “The Year of Yes.”
The book, which seems to bare some resemblance to the Jim Carrey movie “Yes Man,” details the events of a year in which Rhimes made the decision to say "yes" to any unexpected invitations that came her way.
As reported in People, Rhimes said, "Saying yes for an entire year turned out to be one of the most amazing decisions I have ever made."
"It was also a little insane, a lot terrifying and sometimes wildly embarrassing. So this is not a story I ever planned to share with anyone," added the 45-year-old TV maverick responsible for such hit shows as “Grey’s Anatomy" and “Private Practice.”
In the memoir, Rhimes described the discrepancy she felt between the characters she created and herself.
"The lives of my characters had become unimaginably huge,” she wrote. “People all over the world knew Meredith and Olivia. At the same time, my life had so drained of color and excitement that I could barely see it."
Rhimes concluded that her feelings were the result of never saying yes to anything. She decided it was time to change that situation.
The next episode of “Scandal” airs Oct. 1 on ABC.
