'Girls' HBO TV Series To End Soon? Lena Dunham Gives Hints
Is it a wrap for the "Girls" after its sixth season?
Lena Dunham, creator of the the HBO comedy series, dropped hints in an interview with radio host Elvis Duran's Morning Show, saying that the series will likely end after a season or two, Huffington Post reports.
The out-loud feminist tried to make the revelation a little light for everyone, saying "never say never". But then she continued to say, "but that is the way that we're thinking about it right now, and we're starting to think about sort of how to wrap up the storylines of these particular young women."
Dunham also said that this may be the perfect time for the show to end.
"I started working on this show when I was 23, and now I'm going to be 30 so it kind of feels right that this show kind of sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world," Dunham added.
The producer's hands have been quite full lately, adding up her recently launched feminist newsletter co-made with fellow "Girls" producer Jenni Konner.
Dunham's reveal makes perfect sense with the story's plot, according to an E Online report, since last season's finale gave way to a more mature character of Lena's character, Hannah, after she decided not to take back Adam despite his desperate clamors. The fourth season finale also showed Hannah dating a new guy six months after. Also, the rest of the girls were seen to be moving forward at different aspects, whether in work or in love.
According to E Online, this was not the first time Dunham subtly gave an idea that the show will not go on after its sixth season.
In an interview with Variety, Dunham said she prefers the British kind of series - shorter than that prevailing in the United States.
"I think America has a tendency to push shows past their due dates," Dunham says in the interview. "I like the British model - in and out."
Season 5 of "Girls" will premiere next year, January, and Huffington Post reports that the show is currently in the works as of now. The report also adds that HBO has not still renewed the contract for a prospective "Girls" installment beyond this current 5th and since the series is still a thing for American viewers, Huffington Post says that season renewal can be a sure thing.
