New details have emerged about the mother who tossed her newborn baby from a Bronx apartment building, including a previous experience in which she lost another child.

The NY Daily News reports 33-year-old Yonkers resident Jennifer Berry lost an infant to SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, in 2008. Berry had given birth to the child and taken it home, before it later died of unexplained causes.

Berry has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter for throwing another newborn baby girl from a seventh story window at 130 West 183rd street in University Heights. The baby was found with its umbilical cord still attached in the courtyard of the building. It was pronounced dead at the scene.

Berry gave birth to the infant in the shower and initially alleged it was not breathing. However, an autopsy later revealed the child had been alive at birth.

"There was air in the lungs, this was a healthy baby girl," Assistant District Attorney Georgia Barker said at Berry's arraignment.

Giovanni Johnson, owner of the apartment and father to the deceased infant, told authorities he was unaware that his girlfriend Berry was pregnant. Berry allegedly told Johnson that she had had an abortion months earlier. When Johnson found his girlfriend in a pool of blood on the bathroom floor Tuesday, Berry told him she was having her period.

"He's a good guy," Tiffany Martinez said of Johnson. "Every time I see him, he's with his son. He's a good man. From what I've seen, they always look like a happy family."

There are also reports that Berry used to work in social services. The New York City Administration for Children's Services told People Magazine that Berry worked for the agency as a child welfare caseworker. She worked there for six months from 2007 to 2008.
