Authorities say a fire started at a Southern California Planned Parenthood clinic was the work of an arsonist.

Associated Press reports someone tossed a container with flammable liquid though the window of the facility in Thousand Oaks, Wednesday night. The ensuing flame set off the fire alarm, alerting nearby crew to the incident.

When firefighters arrived they found the fire mostly quelled by the building's sprinklers.

"There was smoke throughout the structure and significant water damage as when the sprinkler head starts flowing, it flows gallons per minute. There was more damage from water than from fire," said a fire department spokesman to Newsweek. "The water damage, however, is less devastating."

Thankfully, no one was present in the building when it was attacked.

Captain John Reilly said surveillance footage captured a suspect wearing a hoodie and face mask, but the recording was poor. No arrests have yet been made.

Many believe the attack was motivated by the recent controversy surrounding Planned Parenthood. The nonprofit has been heavily criticized by pro-life advocates, with a recent effort by congressional Republicans to defund the organization ending in failure.

"The toxic rhetoric directed at Planned Parenthood has dangerous consequences," California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said. "It sends a signal that using violence to close clinics and intimidate health care professionals and women is OK. It is not."

Recently, Planned Parenthood has had to increase its security measures in anticipation of attacks such as this.

"While this extremism is deeply troubling, our focus is on providing high-quality, compassionate health care to the millions of women, men, and young people across the country who rely on us," local Planned Parenthood president Jenna Tosh said.

The Thousand Oaks Center, which sees over 7,000 patients a year, offers a wide range of medical services including birth control, cancer screenings and testing for sexually transmitted infections.
