Seasoned trainer Freddie Roach hails his fighter, the newly crowned World Boxing Council super lightweight world champion Viktor Postol, for an impressive performance on Saturday, Oct. 3, against Argentine boxer Lucas Matthysse at the StubHub Center in California.

The Ukraine warrior silenced the crowd when he delivered a 10th-round knockout victory against the highly favored Argentine boxer Lucas Matthysse, which made his trainer very proud of him, Boxing Scene reported.

"Before the last round I told our corner that our opponent was very tired and ready to go out. He was coming in with his head leaning down. We told Viktor now is the time for a right uppercut and a left hook. Viktor is a good student of the game. He followed the game plan perfectly. This was, really, one of the greatest wins of my career," Roach said.

Matthysse shared his frustration

A separate Boxing Scene article noted that prior to that defining moment, the undefeated boxer received several punishing punches from "La Maquina," that's why it was a shocker to see Matthysse refuse to go up after being floored by the 31-year-old fighter.

The 33-year-old fighter had an important health concern that made him consider to just give up and forego fighting, another report from Boxing Scene noted.

"I wasn't hurt, it was just the eye. I went blind and obviously it caused some concern because I didn't want to go blind," Matthysse said, explaining how Postol's hit on his eye affected him.

However, even if his eye was not hit that much, Matthysse admitted that it was simply not his night and it did not go the way he thought it would. The Argentine said that he was "really, really frustrated" by how he was not able to "get inside" the taller Postol.

Lost not just the WBC crown

It was just unfortunate that it did not work well with Matthysse this Saturday. Aside from losing the chance to immediately don the vacant WBC crown, he most probably lost his shot against the Filipino icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao's next fight in early 2016.

Golden Boy Promotions head Oscar De La Hoya, who promoted Matthysse, stated that his boxer should impress Team Pacquiao to be a strong contender for the eight-division world champion's comeback fight, Boxing News 24 informed.

With Matthysse's loss, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, "Pacman's" promoter, will just have to choose among other fighters on his list or seek out for more boxers that will interest fans and the viewing public. Will the WBC Silver Welterweight titleholder Amir Khan be the frontrunner now?
