Sam Smith's ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ Music Video Makes Debut
Sam Smith has released the music video for his James Bond theme "Writing's On The Wall."
The British singer dropped the new clip, directed by Luke Monaghan, showcasing the "Spectre" theme song early Monday morning, according to Entertainment Weekly. This video was also appropriately released on the day deemed Global James Bond Day, as it's the anniversary of the day "Dr. No" was released in theaters.
Smith is featured in the video, which was shot in Rome, standing in front of a row of caskets wrapped in Union Jack flags. Images of Daniel Craig and Monica Bellucci from the "Spectre" are also intermixed in the clip.
Last week Smith shared a 15-second teaser clip of the video's opening sequence. Only last month did he reveal he would be singing the new Bond theme for "Spectre" after denying the constant rumors.
"This is one of the highlights of my career," Smith said. "I am honored to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it."
Smith is also re-releasing his debut album, "In The Lonely Hour," as a double-disc format. The offering called "In The Lonely Hour: The Drowning Shadows Edition" will include the new song "Drowning Shadows," which was produced by Smith's recurrent collaborators Jimmy Napes and Steve Fitzmaurice. According to a press release, "Drowning Shadows" is "a stripped back, heart-wrenching ballad."
In addition to the new track, the second disc will also feature covers of Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know" and Amy Winehouse's "Love Is A Losing Game" and Smith's collaborations with Mary J. Blige and Disclosure.
Smith's "In The Lonely Hour: The Drowning Shadows Edition" will be released the same day as "Spectre" is due out in theaters on Nov. 6.
