The 31-year-old "When You're Gone" singer married the 40-year-old Nickelback front man in Canada in July 2013, but they decided to call it quits after two years of marriage, according to Billboard.
The couple began dating while Kroeger was helping Lavigne write and record music for her fifth album in July 2012. Previously, the pair collaborated on the song "Let Me Go," which detailed the growth of their relationship. They released the track the same year they were married. In first announcing the separation from Kroeger, Lavigne released a statement in early September, reassuring her fans the pair would remain friends.
"It is with a heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today," Lavigne wrote on Instagram. "Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still and forever will be the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."

Before her marriage to Kroeger, Lavigne was married to Sum 41 front man Deryck Whibley. They had married in July 2006 and gotten divorced in November 2010.
Last year Lavigne announced she was diagnosed with Lyme disease, and this past June she said she was "doing a lot better," according to People.
Lavigne last released her self-titled album in November 2013. The offering produced the singles "Here's to Never Growing Up," "Rock N Roll," "Let Me Go" and "Hello Kitty."
