Best selling romance novelist Nicholas Sparks recently sold his first TV project, "The Next Chapter," to ABC.

The series, which will be written by Austin Winsberg, best know for his work on "Gossip Girl," and executive produced by singer Christina Aguilera, will be a half-hour scripted comedy that takes on aspects of Sparks' own life.

According to Deadline, Sparks announced in January that he was separating from his wife of 25 years, and he is now back on the market with his own struggles in the area of romance.

The TV series will mirror his real life story, giving the author a chance to speak out from his heart through a fictional character that is in a similar situation.

The show will be about a man named Ben Diamond, who is also a best-selling romance novelist. Ben goes through a divorce and faces the challenges of dating again after so much time as a devoted married man.

The series will center on the challenges that lie ahead for the character and what he must do to overcome his own self-doubt, including his lost notion of love.

As the series progresses, Ben will soon learn to love again. He will find a new way to live on his own and by his own rules. But the pressure of his public persona, given his celebrity status as a romance novelist who failed at the one topic he writes about, takes a harrowing toll on the character.

Although the series is billed as a comedy, there will also be a dramatic element to it, which Sparks is so good at in real life.

There has been no word yet on when production will start, nor when the show will premiere on ABC.
