FIFA Presidential Candidate Chung Mong-Joon Calls Current Sepp Blatter A "Liar and Hypocrite"
FIFA presidential candidate Chung Mong-Joon had some pretty harsh words for the current FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
Yahoo reports that the South Korean tycoon called Blatter a "liar and a hypocrite" and will be launching an embezzlement case against Blatter. He is seeking $100 million from the incumbent president.
Chung, who served 17 years as vice president of FIFA, called Blatter "secretive." Blatter is under investigation by Swiss officials for "disloyal payment" to UEFA president Michel Platini. He has denied any wrongdoing in the investigation.
"That is why I plan to sue Mr Blatter for embezzlement," Chung stated.
"The amount of money I can claim against President Blatter is in proportion with the amount of damage he inflicted on FIFA," he continued.
BBC Sports reports that Blatter is expected to step down as President on Feb. 26.
Chung is also under investigation as well. Reports state that the former vice president is being investigated by the FIFA ethics committee after allegedly violating six articles from the world football governing body of ethics. Chung has denied any wrongdoing and called the investigation a way "to sabotage his presidential campaign."
Chung is one of four candidates currently eying Blatter's presidential seat. UEFA president Michel Platini, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan and Liberian FA president Musa Bility are the other three candidates joining Chung in the race towards the presidency.
On Wednesday, Blatter has been suspended by the FIFA Ethics committee for 90 days. According to BBC, the suspension is provisional.
Hans Joachim Eckert, the head of FIFA ethics adjudicatory chamber, is expected to make the ruling official on Thursday.
A new FIFA president is expected to be named next February.
Blatter has been FIFA president since 1998.
