Singer Miguel Lands On Fan At Billboard Awards Performance
The Billboard Music Awards are usually reserved for well-rehearsed, breathtaking performances and constant rounds of applause. Someone should have told singer Miguel that, as his unplanned acrobatic wound up injuring one of his fans on Sunday.
The crooner was working towards the end of his song "Adorn" when all of the sudden he decided that it would be a good idea to do something out of the ordinary. He aimed at a podium roughly ten feet from where he was performing, and took flight.
And landed smack dab on a fan's head. Had the woman not been standing right next to the podium, it is likely that Miguel's jump would have been successful. Unfortunately for both parties, that was not the case.
"Well, I think it's kind of clear what happened," he said, looking quite embarrassed. "But I'm very happy to bring my new friend, Khyati, we just met . Unfortunately we did not meet under the best circumstances, but I think we're okay."
A video and gif of the incident quickly went viral on many online forums, and Miguel's mishap has already received hundred of thousands of views on YouTube in less than a day.
So what does the singer chalk up the incident to? Adrenaline, for one. Miguel claims that the decision was made in the heat of the moment and it does not appear that he had originally planned on making the jump.
"The crazy thing is, when you're performing and you're just kind of into it, you never know where it's gonna go and where you're gonna go with it, and how that might turn out," he said. "So this is one of the less favorable moments."
To her credit, the fan, Khyati, appeared to take everything in stride. While she did suffer some bumps and bruises, she was not seriously injured and was soon whisked away by Miguel himself for the rest of the night at the awards ceremony.
When asked about how she felt about everything, Khyati even was calm enough to come up with a quick pun, stating that "I Adorn him" in reference to Miguel and the song he was performing.
