Fans of AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire" can breathe a sigh of relief now that cable network AMC has officially put an order in for Season 3 of the show.

Deadline reports that the show has enjoyed modest success in terms of ratings, but has had a dedicated audience from the very start. The show, which is about the rise of personal computers in the '80s, centers around a fictional company that rose out of the Silicon Prairie in Texas.

The show had a lot going for it in the very beginning and if certain criteria for the show had been different, then it may not have been renewed.

Joel Stillerman, who is president of original programming and development at AMC, said that ownership of the show led to the key metrics necessary to give it a Season 3 order.

"We built an ownership model a few years ago expressly for this purpose," Stillerman told Deadline. "While not large, 'Halt and Catch Fire's' audience is extremely passionate and upscale, and we are pleased with the critical momentum the show has. We love what the creative team and cast have been able to deliver and are particularly grateful to the critics and fans who supported the show throughout the second season and have been pulling for its renewal."

The show's third season will take the characters somewhere that fans have been waiting two seasons to see. Although their roots are in Texas, they will finally make the move to California's Silicon Valley and start competing with the early giants of the industry.

Although the characters and company are fictional, they still feature aspects of the '80s competition, which includes the first Macintosh by Apple. But with the characters actually moving into Silicon Valley, there may end being some notable characters who were really a part of the digital revolution present in the show.
