"Star Citizen" is certainly earning its name. Cloud Imperium Games announced a star-studded cast for the upcoming space game, making "Star Citizen" even more highly anticipated way ahead of its release date.

According to a report from Game Spot, the developer confirmed the wide selection of Hollywood stars, who will be appearing in the single-player campaign during the CitizenCon last weekend. It's clear that Cloud Imperium Games didn't hold back from drawing in top talent in their roster with the impressive cast helmed by Gary Oldman ("The Dark Knight," "Harry Potter").

Joining Oldman is a slew of famous actors who have starred in some of the industry's most iconic franchises. The cast included in the "Star Citizen" roster are Mark Hamill ("Star Wars"), Gillian Anderson ("The X-Files"), John Rhys-Davies ("The Lord of the Rings"), Andy Serkis ("The Lord of the Rings"), Ben Mendelsohn ("Dark Knight Rises"), Mark Strong ("Kingsman") and more.

The cast will be part of Squadron 42, the "Star Citizen" single-player campaign, and the game's full performance capture means the actors' participation goes beyond the usual voiceover work that they often do for video games.

In an interview with the "Star Citizen" team, Oldman addressed the difference between this new experience and the previous video games he's been part of such as "The Legend of Spyro," "Call of Duty" and "Lego Dimensions."

"Well it's total," he pointed out during the interview. "The work I've done before has been voice work. So you come in and lay down the vocal track. And this is completely different because we wear the cameras and head gear so it captures the performance and all those other many, many cameras and gizmos capture the physicality."

He added, "It's more like being in a film as an actor rather than the other games I've done that's a bit like radio."

Oldman will be playing Admiral Ernst Bishop, one of the main characters in the game's Squadron 42.

"He is a great leader, soldier, tactician in the vein of someone like General Patton, Montgomery or Alexander the Great," Oldman said about his in-game persona. "So that's I think the base for it. And then you make it your own."

The "Star Citizen" is a crowd-funded video game that began in 2012 and has collected over $90 million from nearly a million citizens, according to the official Roberts Space Industries website. No release date has been confirmed yet.
