Peru vs. Chile World Cup Qualifiers 2018: Preview, Predictions, Stream, Schedule, Lineups
On Tuesday, Oct. 13 Chile and Peru meet in a Copa America game that should be as exciting as they come.
Chile passed its first big test by taking down Brazil 2-0 in its first qualifier at home. Now the team will get a chance to show off its prowess on the road.
The reigning Copa America champs were arguably the most impressive team of all the CONMEBOL participants in the first round and currently look like the runaway favorites to finish top of the table. With Argentina and Brazil struggling, Chile should have an easy run. Of course, two years is a long time, and anything can change, especially on Tuesday.
Both Peru and Chile like having the ball and the home side is especially active at pressuring in the midfield, something that could throw off the intense Chilean possession game.
For Peru, a win in Lima would be crucial to its campaign. The team was unlucky not to leave Colombia with at least one point after putting in a good shift against Los Cafeteros. Instead patchy defending on a set piece coupled with a late counter cost the team a 2-0 defeat.
The last time these teams met, Chile defeated Peru 2-1 in the Copa America semifinals. Chile went on to win the tournament while Peru finished third.
Last time the teams contested a qualifier, Chile lost 1-0 in Lima. That match took place in 2013 while the other meeting in the last cycle was a 4-2 win for Chile in Santiago.
Peru lost both qualifying games against Chile however for the previous World Cup cycle.
Prediction: Chile is on fire right now and unless the team suffers a major injury, this should be a cakewalk. No disrespect to Peru, but Chile wins 2-0.
Start Time: 10:15 p.m. EST
The game can be streamed on beIN Sport Connect.
