On Oct. 11, singer Shakira hit a milestone when she surpassed Puerto Rican superstar Jennifer Lopez as the Latina with the most Twitter followers.

The Colombian singer thanked her fans for the support on her social media platforms and captioned an image of herself on Twitter with, "Wow, 35 million! Thanks guys. 35 millones! Increíble! Shak."

Lopez currently has 33.8 million followers and is tied with singer Selena Gomez. However, while Shakira is the most followed Latina, there is a Latino who surpasses the singer.

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo leads with a total of 38.3 million Twitter followers, reported TVyNovelas.

According to The New York Times, with 46.6 followers, Gomez is the most followed Latina on Instagram and fourth-most followed star in general, behind the top three most followed stars: Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé.

Besides her social media status, Shakira recently made news for showing off famously toned figure. Last week, Shakira was spotted putting her post-baby body on display during a photo shoot in Spain, reported Fox News Latino.

The singer gave birth to her son Sasha, her second child with soccer star Gerard Piqué, on January 2015. Since then she has been working on getting her famous figure back with her longtime trainer Anna Keiser, who she she met when working on her album "She Wolf."

"I love the combo of dance and strength," she told Us Weekly. "Anna is one of the most knowledgeable people I know in the world of fitness. Aside from that, she keeps the workout varied and always makes it fun!"

Shakira recently made history as one of the Latino stars who was given the chance to perform for Pope Francis' first visit to the United States in September.

During the pontiff's visit to the United Nations in New York City, the singer, who is a UNICEF goodwill mbassador, performed John Lennon's "Imagine."
