While Coco-Cola and Dr. Pepper are busy concocting new flavors for their lineup of fizzy drinks, PepsiCo is currently preoccupied with launching its first Android smartphone in China.

The Carbonated soft drink maker recently confirmed to Reuters that it will release a line of Pepsi smartphones and accessories in the Red Dragon country. However, the scheme will only be a one-time deal as the company has no plans of permanently dipping its toes into the mobile manufacturing arena.

"Available in China only, this effort is similar to recent globally licensed Pepsi products which include apparel and accessories," a PepsiCo representative said.

As for the smartphone in question, it is rumored to bear the epic name Pepsi P1. The handset was first teased on the company's official Weibo page before news of its existence spread online.

According to Tech Sina via Mobi-picker, the P1 rocks a 5.5-inch 1080p touchscreen display, 2GB of RAM with 16GB expandable storage and 3,000 mAh battery.

It is powered by MediaTek's MT6592 processor and runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop right off the box. Camera-wise, it is flanked by a 13-megapixel rear camera and a five-megapixel front-facing unit.

The P1 is expected to be introduced in Beijing on Oct. 20 and will retail shortly thereafter for ¥1,300 or roughly $205.

Reports of the upcoming novelty item came a week after Sharp announced it will soon release a 2-in-1 Android device known as the Sharp RoBoHon.

Sharp, as translated by Phone Arena, said the RoboHon is an eight-inch robot that is mobile in every sense of the word. It can walk and light up while doubling as an Android smartphone.

The Japanese electronics company explained the idea behind the RoBoHon is to afford people with a more "friendly" and interactive digital assistant as a substitute to the boring ones currently featured on high-end devices from leading smartphone brands.

In terms of its specs, the RoBoHon only differs aesthetically from other mobile devices. The hybrid has a two-inch 240 x 320 touchscreen display and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400 processor. It has support for Bluetooth, 3G, Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity while sporting a yet-to-be-specified camera unit.

Renowned Japanese inventor Tomotaka Takahashi said the RoBoHon is "the next generation of mobile information communication terminal," Mail Online reported.

The novelty will be available in Sharp's home country sometime in early 2016. Information regarding its global availability and price have yet to be reported.
