In case Uncharted fans had any doubts that Naughty Dog's upcoming fourth series title would mark a definite end to Nathan Drake's story, developers have confirmed that the game will surely put a close to the titular hero's tale.

Neil Druckmann, creative director of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, told Official PlayStation Magazine that the game marks the end for Nathan Drake, as well as the "end of an era" for the Naughty Dog studio.

"Until things are pinned down then it's never definite. But once we put the pins in those things, it became very real," Druckmann said. "We'd been discussing it throughout production about how it's going to be the last one, but when we said, 'Well, here's exactly how it's going to happen and we're committing to this and here are the scripts for it,' then all of a sudden it's like, 'Oh, this is the end for Nathan Drake!'"

Druckmann said the studio originally envisioned Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception as the end of the series, but plans changed. This go around will be the true finale, and that reality even made Druckmann himself "a little sad."

However Drake meets his end, its clear Naughty Dog is determined to get it right. The studio delayed the game until March 2016 because the ending was "much more ambitious" than originally expected.

Druckmann also talked about some of the technical hang-ups the game had experienced during gaming demos. The director admitted to panicking a bit when the game experienced a glitch during a showing at E3 2015.

"Luckily I'm not on stage like Bruce [Straley, co-director] is. I'm in the audience. But yeah, your stomach drops and you're freaking out, because you know you work so hard on this thing but the game is not done, so you know that there are still these bugs in there. You're always so nervous because something can go wrong, and then when it does, first of all you think, 'Can we even play the rest of this?' You don't know what's going to happen," Druckmann said.

Even that experience had a silver lining, however, as many people appreciated knowing the demo was the real deal and not a prerecorded video that presenters only pretend to play.

Uncharted 4 is set for release on March 18, 2016.
