Microsoft Surface Book Review, Release Date: Surface Books Sold Out Online; October Release Date Announced
All of the Surface Book laptops on Microsoft's website are sold out, two weeks before they are scheduled to be released.
Customers must be confident that Microsoft's first laptop is going to be worth it.
When customers try to click on each one of the five varieties of the Surface Book on Microsoft's website, they see the message "Email me when available," CNet reports.
Microsoft might have underestimated the demand for its first-ever laptop, which it announced on Oct. 6. Customers were able to pre-order the Surface Book on Oct. 7 and it looks like they jumped on it fast.
The Surface Book runs Windows 10 and features a detachable keyboard that allows it to transform into a tablet.
Microsoft wants to set an example with the Surface Book. The company hopes that other PC makers will follow their example and build similar laptops that take advantage of all of the new features in Windows 10.
Microsoft's head of devices, Panos Panay, called the Surface Book the "ultimate laptop." He also noted that it was the "thinnest, most powerful PC ever created."
Buyers who are still interested in pre-ordering a Surface Book can try Amazon and Frys.com. Both of these e-retailers have availability of several of the models of the Surface Book. Best Buy will sell the Surface Book, but not via pre-order.
The Surface Book has a sharp 13.5-inch screen, displaying 3,000 x 2,000 pixels, a powerful Intel processor and a battery life of up to 12 hours. A new feature in Windows 10 called Windows Hello will use the front-facing camera to allow users to unlock their computers by showing their face to the screen.
It looks like Microsoft is really trying to compete with Apple's MacBook. The cheapest Surface Book will cost $1,499 and go all the way up to $2,699 for the high-end model.
