Demi Lovato did not just do naked, she went nude.

To be naked is merely stripping down of physical clothes, but to be nude, which the "Let It Go" singer has embraced, is to transcend from just taking down material things. She went beyond stripping as she bared her new self open.

Explaining about her headline-making gig with Vanity Fair, which featured the 23-year-old singer completely undressed, Lovato told Access Hollywood that one of the reasons she let herself photographed nude because she wanted people to see her "confident" persona.

At first, the pop star admitted that being cloth-less felt a bit awkward but when she thought of the message that wanted to get across, there were no holds barred and just gave it a go.

"When I start to think about the message, when I would start to think about how many people this would inspire, I got more comfortable doing it," Lovato said.

In a report by E! News, Lovato said that her impromptu decision in doing the nude photography was fueled mainly by her new album, "Confident."

"We live in a world where everything is touched up, even pictures that people post on Instagram now. So I wanted to put it out there, the opposite of what people are kind of expecting from me right now," Lovato told E! News.

During her nude photoshoot, Lovato had set out three rules: no makeup, no lighting and no clothing. She added that she did it just like that because she wanted to make a statement and empower women to be open and free in expressing herself, no matter what the society thinks.

"For someone who's had body image issues since they were a child, I went from hating every inch of my body to showing every inch of my body to the entire world and without touching up anything. I wouldn't have done that six months ago, because I didn't have the confidence that I do today," Lovato said.

According to a previous Latin Post report, the former Disney star admitted during her photoshoot that she has been a victim of body-shaming and she thought that being nude, which symbolizes her breaking free from society's labels, helps her become comfortable with her own skin. Achieving comfort with her body clearly embodies what her new album wanted to say about confidence.

Lovato also told Access Hollywood that her confidence and her new album has helped her in bidding goodbye to the past.

"I'm referring to all my previous behaviors," Lovato said while referencing one of her album's track, "Old Ways.""

"Self-medicating, or coping with whatever it was I was dealing with at the time, and 'Old Ways' is kind of an ode to not doing that again," she said.
