With less time to spare for the upcoming Marvel movie, "Gambit" lead star Channing Tatum is putting his trust on "Edge of Tomorrow" and "Bourne Identity" director Doug Liman to direct the film.

According to Screen Rant, Marvel is set to release at least three movies in 2016, and that includes "Deadpool," "X-Men: Apocalypse" and "Gambit." Despite the former two titles having directors already, "Gambit" in its pre-production stage has yet to confirm who will direct the said Marvel story. Rupert Wyatt of "Rise of the Planet Apes" was primarily slated for the project, but eventually turned it down due to creative issues.

Channing Tatum, who plays the lead role "Gambit" also known as Remy LeBeau, is all set on hailing Doug Liman to direct the film. Liman is yet to accept the project, but regardless of the outcome, the whole "Gambit" production may have to announce a director soon.

Wyatt may have been the perfect man for the job, but a source said that one of the reasons he left the project is the disagreement between his camp and Fox's regarding the film's overall concept. Wyatt is also aware of the issues that have transpired between "Fantastic Four" director Josh Trank and Fox, where they clashed on different levels during the production of the film.

Jeff Sneider of the TheWrap confirmed on Twitter that, indeed, Tatum has been asking the director to join the team. On his post, he said, "True that Channing Tatum has been courting Doug Liman to direct GAMBIT. Let's see if he goes for it though."  With Wyatt primarily saying conflict of schedule is the main reason he left the project, it turned out, his creative visions falling apart under Fox is the main cause.

The Marvel film is said to be released in the U.S. on Oct. 7, 2016, and with less than a year to prepare for the film, this is indeed the time to finally install a director for "Gambit."

The movie production is scheduled to start by spring and lead star Tatum is set to play alongside Lea Seydoux. He will also co-produce the movie with the help of Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg and Reid Carolin.

The two other Marvel movies that will soon hit theaters are "Deadpool" on Feb. 12, 2016 and "X-Men Apocalypse" on May 27, 2016.
