"Today I am so thankful for all of the Love! #Selena was such a beautiful person and I have been wanting to do this forever and couldn't think of a better person to tribute. This was meant for her and the people that love her, so thanks again for all of the support!" she wrote on another post.
The video, which was produced by Dean Dichoso, a Los Angeles-based producer and songwriter, and directed by Sebastian Sdaigui, follows the breakup of a once-happy couple and the struggle to move on. The video also stars the Latina's boyfriend.
Cruz revealed to Billboard in an exclusive interview her reason behind choosing to make her own version of this particular song.
"[Quintanilla's] one of my biggest idols," she said. "And her music still lives on. I picked that song because it just reminds me a lot of a relationship I had in the past and it's something I really connect to. The song is about losing a love and you're still happy for him even though he found happiness with someone else."
