Motorola and Verizon are scheduled to announce the second generation Droid Turbo at a press event on Oct. 27. To heighten the excitement for upcoming smartphone, Big Red has released a teaser video showing the backside of the Droid Turbo 2.

The mobile carrier posted the clip on its official Twitter page with the caption "Introducing the perfect phone for imperfect people." The device was shown falling screen-first to the ground which was followed by the words "The new Droid is dropping soon." This is certainly a reference to the Droid Turbo 2's rumored "shatterproof" screen.

Verizon publicized the teaser just a few days after leaked print ads of the Droid Turbo 2's main selling point surfaced online. You can view them here and here, courtesy of Droid-life.

The upcoming smartphone's top feature is its "shatterproof" screen, which is said to be the first in the world. The leaks supported a previous Phandroid report claiming that the device will sport a "shatterproof" POLED display.

The thinner plastic screen comes with slimmer bezels, making it less susceptible to breakage than its glass counterparts. While in the topic of broken glass, Big Red plans to offer $300 worth of account credits or gift cards for any smartphone customers would trade-in for their new Droid Turbo 2, regardless if prior devices have cracked screens.

The leaks also revealed that the Droid Turbo 2 has been added to Motorola's online customization service, a first for any Verizon-exclusive Droid device. Buyers can choose from numerous colors and skins including leather and ballistic nylon. Over 1,000 color and skin combinations can be made, ensuring that buyers feel a sense of uniqueness with their Droid Turbo 2.

As for the its specs, the Droid Turbo 2 is expected to come with a 5.5-inch screen, Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 810 chipset, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB or 64 GB internal memory and an above average 3,630 mAh battery. It is fitted with a 21-megapixel rear-facing unit and a five-megapixel front camera.

On the other hand, its launch sibling, the Droid Maxx 2, flaunts a 48-hour battery life as its main selling point.

According to Android Police, the Droid Maxx 2 is essentially a rebranded and slightly configured Moto X Play. Hence, its expected specs are as follows:

  • 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD display
  • Qualcomm's Snapdragon 615 processor
  • 21-megapixel rear-facing unit
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 16 GB or 32 GB internal memory
  • Micro-SD expansion slot
