‘Scream Queens’ Releases Behind Scenes Video With Red Devil [Watch]
Ever since "Scream Queens" premiered on Fox this month, Tuesdays for the network have been all about the cheesy scares and the dark comedy. But the show has a particular villain that has emerged as a new iconic figure called the Red Devil. Now, fans can take a look at how that character has come to fruition from its earliest stages to what they watch every Tuesday on the network.
According to Variety, the man behind the mask, or rather the man behind the creation of the mask, is a Hollywood special effects veteran known as David Leroy Anderson. He is not just any special effects creator but an accomplished veteran in the industry with two Oscar awards under his belt. He owns and operates the industry leading company AFX Studios, which is based in Van Nuys, California.
What is especially unique about this behind the scenes video is that Anderson gives fans a little glimpse into the process of how he created the iconic mask the killer would wear for the show, which has been both bloody and hilarious all in the same time.
He detailed what creator Ryan Murphy came to him with, which was just a three word concept, "glamorous and scary."
In Anderson's own words, he had to "reverse engineer" those three words and make them into something that would be an industry icon for the show and its future seasons. So in turn, he hired five illustrators to come and help him take the concept and bring the mask to life.
Anderson had also worked with Murphy for Season 4 of his hit series "American Horror Story: Freak Show." So the two had already had a history of co-creating legendary looks for murderous people, or things. But bringing the Red Devil to life was a unique challenge that he rose to and has been met with incredible success.
Check out the video below of Anderson detailing the evolution of the Red Devil mask.
