Fans have watched several "Die Hard" sequels to date since its original series release in 1988. So it's no surprise why "Die Hard" star Bruce Willis would be so keen on a prequel and he recently expressed his interest on the sixth film.

ET Online caught up with Willis at the red carpet premiere of his film with Kate Hudson "Rock the Kasbah" on Monday, where he was asked about the "Die Hard" prequel. While no further details have been revealed yet as to the film's plotline, the actor expressed his thrill that the movie would be an origin to John McClane's story.

"It's a very good idea, a really tricky idea and I'm very happy about it. It's a really cool idea, because it's the origin story. It's gonna happen at the beginning of this. We're going to bounce back and forth," he said.

Since it's a prequel, there's bound to be a young actor who will portray the role of the young John McClane. When asked about possible prospects for the character, 60-year-old Willis said casting decisions have not been finalized yet. But hopes that whoever gets the part has a "hard head."

"Underworld" director Len Wiseman is reportedly in negotiations to helm the "Die Hard" prequel tentatively titled "Die Hard: Year One." According to the AV Club, the movie will basically feature a young John McClane since the film will be set in 1979, years before the events in the 1988 film when McClane became a "Die Hard" man.

Willis' statements about the prequel "going to bounce back and forth" supposedly suggests that there will be flashback scenes showing both young and old McClane. However, per AV Club, these flash-forward scenes could just be more on old McClane (Willis) since it would explain the character's recent exploits.

Willis got his major film break portraying the lead character of John McClane in the 1988 film. The success of the first movie propelled him to do more sequels, taking on the same role in all four subsequent installments. He last portrayed police officer McClane in the 2013 film "A Good Day to Die Hard" with Australian star Jai Courtney.

According to Screenrant, Courtney was cast as McClane's son Jack in an attempt to focus the film on a much younger character after Willis expressed his exit from the franchise after the sixth film. However, it remains unclear whether Courtney's character will also be in the "Die Hard" prequel.
