Mexican rising star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is unwilling to face Gennady "Triple G" Golovkin at 160 pounds, if he triumphs over World Boxing Council champion Miguel Cotto on Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

It seems that the lure of having three more championship belts from the undefeated Kazakh warrior is not enough for "Canelo" to consider having a showdown with "GGG." Alvarez made it clear on Fight Hype that if the WBC mandatory challenger wants to have a fight with him, it should be at his comfortable weight of 155 pounds, Boxing Scene noted.

"If he wants to fight with me, let him come down to 155 and I'll fight him whatever day he wants," the 25-year-old boxer said.

"At this moment, my body isn't ready for 160 pounds. Maybe 1 or 2 more years I'll be ready for 160," added "Canelo."

Is "Canelo" afraid of Golovkin's boxing skills?

"Canelo" told Fight Hype that he considers Golovkin as a "strong fighter" especially experiencing his punching skills first hand when he became his sparring partner several years ago. However, the younger boxer also shared that he actually did not feel "Triple G's" power, like what other boxers who clashed with the unbeaten champion said.

Thus, "Canelo" may be confident enough to collide with him anytime, except of course, it should be at his desired weight.

Team Golovkin Reacts

It looks like "Canelo" will have a hard time convincing the World Boxing Association, International Boxing Organization and International Boxing Federation middleweight king to come down at 155.

Abel Sanchez, Golovkin's trainer, reacted to Alvarez' statements quickly, a separate article of Boxing Scene informed.

"Gennady is the interim-champion and they have to fight him. If they don't fight him, they vacate and Gennady becomes the champion. For this particular fight, for the WBC belt, I believe the Golovkin's team is thinking that there is no reason for it be any less than 160," Sanchez said.

Sanchez said that it is possible for "Canelo" and "GGG" to meet again in the future and even set a weight limit, but for the mandatory WBC title defense, "it has to be at 160."

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed that the Cotto-Canelo bout winner must face "GGG" or should then be ready to vacate or be stripped off the hard-earned title, the outlet noted.

"The only way to avoid a confrontation with Triple G, is if all of the involved parties signed an agreement in which they agree on another solution," said Sulaiman.

Golovkin was reportedly sidelined twice for the WBC crown by Cotto for Daniel Geale and for Alvarez, will he allow to be bypassed for the third time?
