Demi Lovato 'Confident' Album News: 'Waiting For You' Music Video Premieres [Watch]
On Oct. 22, singer Demi Lovato surprised fans by releasing another music video for a track off of her album "Confident," and this may be her most emotional one yet.
The song, "Waiting For You," which features LA-based rapper Sirah, has Lovato singing about facing bullies and staying strong and confident, a message that her fifth musical album is full of.
"I won't back down, knuckles out, guard in my mouth, hungry for the next round. I'll be waiting for ya," she sings.
The "Waitin' For You" music video, shot in black and white, strays from Lovato's previous video releases. "Cool for the Summer" is colorful party anthem, and "Confident" was shot as a mini action film about girl power featuring Michelle Rodriguez and directed by Robert Rodriguez.
The video features several closeups as Lovato, dressed in a black jacket, light top, jeans and boots, sings outside of Cross Timbers Middle School, the school that she left as a kid because of constant bullying.
The singer's choice to include a part of her life that was a struggle for her makes the song's lyrics that much more powerful. Also noticeable in the video is the singer's bare face and her strong vocals.
A few weeks ago when Lovato released the tracklist for "Confident" she discussed the meaning behind the song, and that got many fans and media outlets speculating whether she was taking aim at fellow popstar Miley Cyrus, reported Seventeen.
"This song shows a side of me that I've never shown before, and that's 'Don't mess with me,'" she said. "Let's just say not a lot of people try to pull that sh*t with me. But it's gonna happen."
After Cyrus' now famous feud with Nicki Minaj at the MTV Video Music Awards in August, Lovato showed support for Minaj, adding to the fuel that "Waitin For You" could be a Cyrus diss track.
"When you get two singers who both have 30 million fans it's inevitable. It's like high school. But I respect bad b***es like Rihanna and Nicki Minaj," Lovato said.
However, with the release of the music video it's clear Lovato is talking to all of her critics in general. Check out the video below.
