Presidential Elections 2016: Is Democratic Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders Agnostic? A Glimpse on His Profile [VIDEO]
If elected, Bernie Sanders would not only become the first Democratic Socialist president, but it looks like the Vermont senator would also become the nation's first agnostic president as well.
Earlier this year, the 74-year-old Independent congressman said that although he is "proud to be Jewish," he admitted that he is "not particularly religious," reports The Christian Science Monitor.
When asked about his religious affiliation during a recent appearance on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," he shied away from talking about his religious views and instead emphasized his philosophical ideas on humanity, leaving some to question whether or not he actually believes in God.
"I am who I am," Sanders told the late night host on Wednesday. "And what I believe in and what my spirituality is about, is that we're all in this together. That I think it is not a good thing to believe that as human beings we can turn our backs on the suffering of other people."
He added: "This is not Judasim. This is what Pope Francis is talking about -- that we cannot worship just billionaires and the making of more and more money. Life is more than that."
The Democratic presidential hopeful also talked about his willingness to consider marijuana legalization if he is elected to the White House.
"We have large numbers of lives that have been destroyed because of this war on drugs and because people were caught smoking marijuana and so forth," Sanders told Jimmy Kimmel, according to USA Today.
"I think we have got to end the war on drugs," he said. "I am not unfavorably disposed to moving toward the legalization of marijuana." Sanders said.
In response, Kimmel quipped that he has "excited a lot of young people. Have you ever excited young people before?"
"Not too often, no," Sanders replied.
