According to Ann Coulter, the easiest way to figure out if an elected official is truly smart is to test the politican on an anti-immigration "litmus test."

While speaking to Christian radio host Eric Metaxas, the conservative commentator suggested that all politicians who believe in immigrant-friendly reform policies are dumb.

"The shortcut is, where do they stand on immigration? It is the litmus test of our day. It tells you how bright someone is. It tells you whether they care about the country. It separates the mice from the men," Coulter said.

The controversial pundit made the remark after stating that the next House Speaker needs to be articulate and someone who "will not instantly push an amnesty through, particularly in a lame duck Congress."

Coulter also praised Rep. Steve King, a Republican from Iowa who has compared immigrants to livestock, as the best Republican to fill the Speaker position, reports Right-Wing Watch.

Earlier this year, Coulter said that the U.S. should close its borders for 10 years and blamed "left-wingers who hate America" for corrupting the U.S. immigration system.

During an interview with PJ Media to promote her anti-immigration book "¡Adios, America!" Coulter suggested that the U.S. implement a 10-year freeze on immigration because the system cannot be rehabilitated with a legal fix.

"The entire thing has to be shut down. No more immigration for 10 years. We get our books in order. We assimilate the ones already here. Build a fence. Repeal anchor babies and then we start up with the pre-1970 immigration policies," Coulter said.

Coulter continued, "The entire immigration bureaucracy is corrupt. It is run by and staffed by left-wingers who hate America who in other times would have been fighting with revolutionaries in Latin America and getting themselves arrested. Now they punish Americans here at home. They say we are racist, sexist, imperialistic, greedy. They want to transform America because they hate America."
