After 13 days, gamers have completed the Pokémon Crystal Version of Twitch Plays Pokémon following a battle with a familiar face -- Red.

What some gamers didn't know at the start, the game was a hacked version of the second-generation Pokémon game.

With the hack, special additions and revisions can be and were added. Notable changes were the evolution of certain Pokémon without trade such as Onix to Steelix. Onix, which was part of the main party of six, evolved into Steelix without a trade holding Metal Coat. A second notable hack was Red's final Pokémon team. In the actual Pokémon Crystal Version game, Red has Pikachu, Espeon, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise on deck. In the hack version for Twitch Plays Pokémon, it was the same team from the Twitch Plays Pokémon Red Version, which was Zapdos, Venomoth, Omastar, Lapras, Nidoking, and Pidgeot.

Gamers first encountered Red at Mt. Silver on day 12 but encountered seven consecutive losses. Finally, on day 13, Feraligatr provided the winning attack on Pidgeot to end the series.

The end of Pokémon Crystal Version was three days shorter than Pokémon Red Version, which ended after 16 days. Perhaps a sign of less trolls and improved mechanisms, all eight Kanto badges were obtained in less than two days. The eight Johto badges were collected within six days. The Elite Four was toppled after 38 attempts following the Johto adventure but only two following the quick spree in Kanto.

What's next for the Twitch Plays Pokémon fan base?

It has been confirmed Pokémon Emerald Version will be next. The third game of the third generation will start Friday, March 21.

Pokémon Emerald Version was the second highest-selling video game in 2005 across North America. The game features protagonists Brendon and May travel in the Hoenn region where they'll encounter Team Aqua and Team Magma. Along with new legendary Pokémon such as Rayquaza, a new Pokémon League Champion awaits the gamer featuring his Water-based Pokémon.

Final Battle vs. Red:

As Latin Post reported, the hype for the Twitch Plays Pokémon series has subdued since the start of Pokémon Crystal Version. Viewership is guaranteed to wane further with Emerald Version. Three days into Pokémon Crystal Version, the stream hit only over live 20,000 viewers, which was down compared to the 80,000-plus seen during Pokémon Red Version. By the end of the final battle against Red, a little over 17,000 live viewers were at hand. Overall, with a month of Twitch Plays Pokémon, the stream has accumulated 49.3 million viewers.

Until Friday's launch of Pokémon Emerald Version, gamers are left with "Golden Sun," which has brought viewership down to approximately 5,000 people as of March 16.
