UFC: Dan Henderson Wants Anderson Silva or Jon Jones for His Next Fight
MMA legend Dan "Hendo" Henderson is already thinking about his future fights in the UFC and he has some big names on his head for his next opponents. He has named Anderson "The Spider" Silva and Jon "Bones" Jones as the fighters he wants to face for his next two fights, per MMA Mania.
"Some fans have been expressing interest in me fighting Anderson Silva. I know he's not the champ right now. That's a fight that people always wanted to see happen again. The fight with Jon Jones never happened. Who knows what he's going to be doing? He's a tough fighter. He was a guy I was ready to fight more than any other," Henderson told AXS TV.
MMA Mania noted that the former Olympic wrestler has three more fights left on his UFC contract. He would be honoring his contract but has insisted that he won't be retiring anytime soon.
Before he could think about his next opponents, the 45-year-old fighter will be battling against Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort in UFC Fight Night 77 on Nov. 7 at Sao Paulo, Brazil. This bout will mark the third and final fight between the two MMA greats.
Henderson beat Belfort via a unanimous decision back in 2006 at Pride 32: The Real Deal in Las Vegas, Nevada, per Sherdog. "The Phenom" evened things out with a head kick knockout win over "Hendo" in UFC Fight Night 32 held at Goiânia, Brazil.
As for his history with Silva, Henderson was defeated by "The Spider" at UFC 82 via submission due to a rear-naked choke in the second round. He lost his Pride welterweight title as it was a unification bout that involved the UFC middleweight belt.
According to MMA Frenzy, the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion was scheduled to fight Jones in 2012 after a Fight of the Year performance against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in UFC 139. An injury forced Henderson out of the fight against Jones and the bout never materialized as he lost three of all his fights in 2013.
The two-time Pride welterweight champion lost two close split decisions against Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans in UFC 157 and UFC 161 respectively, with the third one being a knockout loss against Belfort. He last fought in June at the main event of UFC Fight Night 68 against Tim Boetsch, winning the fight via knockout in the very first round.
In his UFC Profile, Henderson has an MMA record 31 wins and 13 losses, with 15 wins by knockout, two by submission and seven by decision. He is a high-level wrestler with power on both hands.
