Ed Sheeran recently opened up about his breakup with Athina Andrelos and also shared what he thought would be the way for him to maintain his relationships.

After his breakup with Andrelos, the "Thinking Out Loud" singer thought it best to separate his work from his personal life.

Ed opened up about his split with Andrelo in an interview with The Sun (via The Hamilton Spectator). The singer talked about the breakup before he hosted the MTV EMA's on Sunday.

"My relationship ended that night. That was a knee-jerk reaction to that. Every artist keeps composed in public," he said.

According to Mirror UK, Ed also referenced his boozy appearance at the British Awards in February with the breakup with Andrelos and said, "Everyone you think is the most composed might end up being the least composed."

"I'm not saying I'm off the rails or I've been off the rails. Every single one of us puts up a front. There's always something going on behind the scenes," Ed told The Sun.

The "Lego House" singer also reflected on his past relationships in his interview at the MTV EMA's. Ed said he learned that after several failed relationships, it is never healthy to talk about his love life in the public. So the best way to reportedly have a successful relationship is to keep it private.

"I've learned a lot of things being in this industry by doing things right -- and doing things wrong. One thing I've learned is mixing the public with the personal life always ends in tears... so I'm not going to talk about that side of things [any longer]," he said.

Ed was reportedly with Andrelo for a year before they called it quits earlier this year. It's believed his touring schedules affected his relationship with Andrelos, his non-showbiz girlfriend who is reportedly fairly unknown except that she works for chef Jamie Oliver.

The 24-year-old was also linked with fellow singer Ellie Goulding. However, it's believed their relationship was one-sided since Ellie reportedly never acknowledged Ed as her boyfriend. But Ed has since talked about his relationship with the "Love Me Like You Do" singer on his song "Don't." The song was supposedly referencing to his feeling of betrayal after Ellie reportedly cheated on him with a friend. One Direction's Niall Horan was believed to be the other guy who got "physically involved" with Ellie.
