Waze App Update: Despite Alleged Direction Issues, Waze Remains Top Navigation Application
For a helpless commuter, the Waze App may seem to be a life saver, and, at times, the best app to provide you with the fastest and most accurate updates on the road. But recently, that has not been the case for the famed navigation app.
According to a report from CNN, an incident in Rio de Janeiro where a couple used their Waze app to reach the popular destination Niteroi found their fate after the app led them to a different location. Although the said location bears the same name, Niteroi, it was the slump side of the city. The woman was killed upon reaching the vicinity.
While Waze expressed their heartfelt condemnation of the incident, they also appealed to users that it's rather hard to navigate other areas when you specifically point to a location that bears the same name.
The husband of the victim, on the other hand, thinks otherwise. He blames Waze, saying that the app brought them there, where his wife met her fate. After the incident, citizens can't help but think of how will the popular navigation app secure its users, especially in the upcoming Rio Olympics.
Despite such incident, USA Today reports that Waze remains to be the top navigation app. The app is also highly supported by its avid users, providing instant news and updates on the road as well as practical route guide for those who wish to reach their destination fast and easy.
Waze was founded in 2007 and had immediately built its own portfolio and popularity among iPhone and Android users. After gaining massive success and millions of users, Google bought the app for approximately $1 billion. As mentioned, one of the reasons why Waze is the ever-popular navigation app is its ability to provide crowdsourced information that instantly alerts other users.
The more you use Waze, the better it will provide you with specific and better alternate routes. This improvement on your travel time may incredibly allow you to reach home or your destination via the fastest way possible.
In the recent Waze 4.0 update, warnings have been integrated in order to provide a clearer a version for users. For example, a blue icon will warn users that there is a police ahead while a yellow icon will tell you of a nearby hazard.
Regarding its social side, Waze also lets its users share their locations with friends as well as their estimated time of arrival on their rendezvous.
