Sony's Paris Games Week has been nothing but a series of title announcements that made fans extremely excited. Despite the tons of titles and trailers introduced, Sony's president Shuhei Yoshida delivered what most fans were afraid to hear, and that is the company's stance against the backwards compatibility issue.

On his online Q&A appearance, he answered one Twitter question that asked whether they can expect the backwards compatibility feature on the PlayStation 4. Yoshida answered with a firm "no." Regarding questions on PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 titles being integrated on the PlayStation 4, Yoshida addressed them in an apologetic manner, saying that he doesn't have any news about it.

Game Rant mentioned the ongoing program of Xbox One having a backwards compatibility feature, something that the PlayStation 4 never considered doing. The backwards compatibility feature will give players the ability to play their favorite games from an older gaming console to the next-gen console of the same brand.

Xbox One players have been enjoying this feature for quite some time, even luring some gamers to purchase the Xbox One console. Despite the big impact and contentment it could give fans, Sony didn't see the need for that on PlayStation 4.

PlayStation 4 may also not live to play older titles after Sony removed the PlayStation 2's ability to be integrated on the later versions of the PlayStation 3. Developers, on the other hand, took pains on updating titles from the PlayStation 3 in order to be considered on the roster of games for PlayStation 4.

Meanwhile, Dual Shockers made a summary of Sony's president doing the online Q&A, and it basically covered issues and questions about backwards compatibility, PSN name changes as well as the number of games being developed by their first and second party studios.

Yoshida also explained the intricate procedure of updating the PlayStation 4 to support 4K. Although he considers it as a hypothetical question, he said that upgrading will be an easier task. Interestingly, the engineers designing the whole concept of PlayStation 4 gaming has been working on it, including the friend online notification feature. Hopefully in the future, players will be able to make use of it. RIME has also mentioned and is confirmed to be in the developmental stage. Due to the small team that develops it, it may take longer before it wil; be finally launched.
