Kanye West has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and sentenced to 24-months of probation for attacking a photographer in Los Angeles last July.

The 38-year-old rapper was ordered to complete 250 hours of community service, 24 anger management therapy sessions and 24-months of probation as a plea deal to the battery charges on Monday, reports People. The rapper did not reach a civil settlement with the paparazzo, and his plea cannot be used against him in a civil lawsuit.

West was charged with assault after an altercation with a photographer at the Los Angeles International Airport last July. The photographer, Daniel Ramos, claims West punched him without provocation and attempted to take his camera away.

While the artist did not appear in court on Monday, his plea, which includes not guilty to criminal battery and attempted grand theft, was made through his attorney. Prosecutors have decided not to level felony charges against the rapper, each of the two misdemeanors could cost him six months in jail or a $1,000 fine, reports the RollingStone.

According to Billboard, the "Blood On The Leaves" singer has been previously arrested. In September 2008 West had an earlier scuffle with photographers inside the LAX terminal but the cases were dismissed after Kanye completed anger management treatment and agreed to pay for the photographers' broken equipment.

Earlier this year West was accused of assaulting a man in Beverly Hills where a civil settlement has been reached and in January, an altercation ensued when Kanye attacked a man for using a racial slur against West's fiancée, Kim Kardashian.

ABC News reports that Ramos told the court he continues to take medications for his injuries and believes that West should be in jail. "If I did what he did to me, I'd be behind bars," said Ramos. "I was doing my job and he broke the law."

The photographer has revealed he's fearful of retaliation because West made comments on the "Jimmy Kimmel" show in October saying: "It's not safe for you in this zoo. Never think that I'm not from Chicago for one second."
