Washington Square Mall Shooting: 3 People Shot
Indiana police are still searching for the suspects involved in a mall shooting that left three people shot and wounded on Wednesday night.
Officials say that one of the two suspects opened fire outside of a Target at Washington Square Mall around 6:30 p.m. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief of Operations Brian Mahone added that the suspects, who are believed to be between the ages of 19 and 20 years old, approached a man that they knew and shot him after an altercation. The other two victims are believed to be innocent bystanders that may have gotten caught in the fire.
"This is not a random act," Mahone said, according to IndyStar. "It looks like the suspect and the victim knew each other."
He added that the shooting "could've been anywhere these two individuals would've run into each other."
The shooting victims have been identified as Aaron Carr, 26, Robert Kennedy, 25, and Myliah Esco, 20, reports Fox 59. All three were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries, but the two males have since been released from Eskenazi Hospital. The woman, however, was taken to IU Methodist Hospital for serious conditions, but officials say she is now in stable condition.
By Thursday morning, police confirmed a fourth person was injured when she fell while running away from the scene.
Mahone said the firearm "was not a long rifle," but the number of shots fired and a description of the suspect have not been confirmed. Police also said that the shooting was gang-related.
Following the incident, Washington Square Mall released a statement, saying, "The mall's security staff and Indianapolis Police Department responded quickly. The mall is cooperating fully with the police's investigation," according to Wane.com.
"The safety of our shoppers and employees is our top priority. As part of our commitment to promoting a safe shopping environment, we maintain a highly-trained staff that is prepared to respond to a variety of emergency situations. We take numerous proactive measures and coordinate very closely with local officials as a best practice."
